The Chiefs maintained their 100% league record with a comfortable win against Truro on the Blackmore Field.

Unlike in previous games, the Chiefs took the initiative from the kick off keeping play mainly in the opposition half moving the ball effectively through phases. This did not bring an early try but kept the scoreboard moving thanks to three penalties kicked by Jake Allen in the opening quarter.

The first try came on the 20-minute mark when Harry Emmett peeled off a lineout maul near the line to drive over. Jake Allen added the first of six conversions.

The second try resulted from a well-executed move from a five-metre scrum with fly half Jake Smith looping around Tom Hodge to cut through the centre and touch down under the posts.

Harry Emmett linked with his backs to break deep into the opposing 22 where Dan Armstrong scored from a quick tap penalty move. And the lively Emmett scored a second try when he supported Ollie Hansford-Harvey who made a 50-metre diagonal run deep into the 22.

Truro were next to score when their right winger followed up a charged down clearance kick to touch down wide out on the right. The try was unconverted making the halftime score 37-5.

With the visitors unable to replace their injured hooker, the referee ordered uncontested scrums for the remainder of the game.

Three minutes after the restart, Jake Smith scored his second try when he followed up his own kick to win the race for the touchdown.

Midway through the half Jed Reid scored from a lineout catch-and-drive play.

Truro scored a second try when the full back joined the line to cut through a gap following a scrum in the Sidmouth 22. The try was converted.

With two minutes to go, the Chiefs were awarded a penalty try and, in injury time, a break by Rory O’Brien created a try for Ollie Hansford-Harvey to complete the scoring.

On Saturday, while there is a break in league rugby. Meanwhile, at the Blackmore field, Sidmouth O35s entertain Exeter Officer Training Corps, kicking off at 2pm.

At Sidford, the Colts entertain Exmouth Colts kicking off at 2.30pm.

On Saturday week the Chiefs travel to play second placed Wadebridge Camels and the Colts travel to Newton Abbot.
