Sidmouth got off to a fantastic start, Dan Armstrong finding himself in right place to take a loose ball from the Lydney attack to give Sidmouth a 5 -0 lead in the opening 2 minutes. Lydney were quick to respond as Sidmouth failed to deal with the kick off, the Lydney backs were very clinical in the final 3rd and took the lead 7-5, from there they never looked back.
A bounce of the ball from an attempted kick through, bounced up to the Lydney winger who sprinted 30m to score under the posts, to make the score 14 - 5.
When Sidmouth capitalised on winning some set piece, some hard carrying from Phil Dollman and some slick offloading from Sam Heathcote set up Shaun Malton for try for Sidmouth.
The Lydney team got into 2nd gear and scored 2 well worked team tries, making it 24-10 to the home side.
Sidmouth showed what they could do at this level with a well worked cross field kick from Dollman, leaving Sam Heathcote with some work to do, the in-form try scorer took his chance, Jake Smith adding the extras to make it 24-17.
Summing up Sidmouth’s day, failure to deal with the kick off resulted in a penalty and a yellow card for Ollie Derryman, which the Lydney 10 converted making it 27-17 at half time.
The second half was all Lydney as they came out the blocks all guns blazing and dominated the second half, with Sidmouth never really coming out of the changing rooms, the home side scored 6 unanswered tries. However, Sidmouth showed some resilience to end the game with a well deserved try, after having 5 minutes of pressure in the Lydney third, finally a pick and go ended with Dan Armstrong coming up with the ball. Picking up a try bonus point puts a small silver lining after the 2nd half performance.
