Barnstaple RFC

47 - 3

(HT 0-0)

Sidmouth RFC
Barnstaple started with great intent, playing from a scrum penalty advantage, barum went 2 phases into the sidmouth final 3rd and simple hands gifted the 13 the first try of the game, the 15 added the extras.
Sidmouth first entry into the Barum 22 with a well worked line out move allowed Tom Hodge a chance to get some front foot ball, similar to Barum, Sidmouth playing with an advantage couldn’t quite make it over the line, Jake Smith took the advantage and added 3 points.
Barum gained the momentum from a penalty after a high tackle allowed a good kick to the corner, the Barum pack exacted a well worked catch and drive maul, then into a power pick and go and scored, again the 15 added the extras.
Sidmouth went back into Barum territory and from a line out on their 5m Sidmouth won it, but then dropped it at the back on the maul.
Barum put together some good phases gaining lots of ground eventually finishing with an easy try for the right winger, again added the extras. 21-3.
Almost straight from kick off the Barum hooker spotted a gap in the middle of the ruck and ran 30 metres to offload to the 12 who ran in untouched from 15 metres to score under the posts, the conversion was added 28-3 to the home side.
Barum worked their way into the Sidmouth half, from a scrum a simple backs move cut straight through the side defence for a try under the posts which was converted. 35-3 which concluded the first half.
At the turn around Sidmouth had a wind behind them and addressed a few areas from the first half and looked to regain some momentum in the game with some pressure in the Barum third, Barums defence noticeable holding out, which was the story of the second half. Barum proved why they are up the top of table with their physicality and rugby intelligence managing the situation, referee and conditions. The game remained scoreless in the second half, considering Sidmouth went down to 13 men with Jack Marchant and Jake Smith both picking up yellow cards, the Sidmouth team battled away. The last five minutes, Barum picked up 2 tries and 1 conversion to make the score 47-3 to the home side. Sidmouth can take away some positives from today, however anything less than your best against a side like Barnstaple you will be in for a tough afternoon, and Sidmouth weren’t at their best today.
