Sidmouth conceded three penalties in the opening five minutes to give Wootton Bassett the early initiative. The Chiefs defended well against the pressure but Wootton Bassett kick a penalty to take the lead.
The Chiefs hit back from the restart to create pressure inside the opposing 22. When they were awarded a five metre scrum in front of the posts an excellent handling move created space for Cian Warren to score in the corner. Wootton Bassett regained possession from the restart kick and were immediately awarded a penalty. The successful kick regained them the lead.
More pressure from the Chiefs enabled them to regain the lead when a diagonal kick by Phil Dollman found Cian Warren in space on the left and he side stepped his way over for a second try.
Wootton Bassett had the better of the exchanges for the next 20 minutes but they could not break down the Sidmouth defence. When the Chiefs broke out of defence, a penalty was kicked for a lineout in the corner and Tom Hodge touched down from a lineout catch-and-drive play. Rory O'Brien kicked a penalty in injury time for an18-6 halftime lead.
The Chiefs built up a commanding lead with two tries in quick succession after the restart. From the kick off, an attempted clearance kick was charged down and Phil Dollman followed up to dribble over the line and win the chase for the touch down. Rory O'Brien added the conversion.
Five minutes later Shaun Malton broke into the 22 and found Lewis Hole in support to score near the posts. Rory O'Brien converted and soon added a penalty to increase the lead further.
Wootton Bassett show commendable spirit to dominate the final quarter scoring three unanswered tries. A fine handling move from a lineout inside the Sidmouth 22 was finished by the left winger.
The next came from a lineout maul, which was converted.
With two Sidmouth players in the sinbin, a cross kick by the fly half found the left winger in space to go over unopposed in the corner to complete the scoring.
On Saturday the Chiefs travel for a rearranged came at Matson.
On the Blackmore Field the Sidmouth Veterans entertain Exeter Saracens Veterans kicking off at 2.30pm.
