Sidmouth Show Spirit in Hard-Fought Clash Against Brixham.
Sidmouth played Brixham for the second consecutive week, this time in league action at the Blackmore Ground.
With several key players returning and confidence high after last week’s improved performance, the home side started brightly.
An early catch-and-drive try from Shaun Malton, converted by Lewis Tose, gave Sidmouth a 7-0 lead.
However, worsening conditions led to errors from both sides.
A turnover in Sidmouth’s 22 gifted Brixham an attacking opportunity, which they converted to level the scores.
The visitors’ fly-half controlled proceedings superbly, and their defensive pressure forced further mistakes from Sidmouth.
Two converted tries before the break saw Brixham take a 21-7 lead into half-time.
The second half was dominated by Sidmouth in both possession and territory, but a lack of clinical finishing on the Brixham line proved costly.
The visitors extended their lead with a penalty and a breakaway try, pushing the score to 31-7.
Sidmouth rallied, showing resilience and attacking intent. Back-row Harry Emmett powered over for a converted try, before a clever cross-field kick from Jake Smith was finished by Cian Warren, with Tose adding the extras to make it 21-31.
Despite a late push for a fourth try, Sidmouth fell short as Brixham held firm.
The young Sidmouth side will take plenty of positives from their performance and remain focused on the tough run of fixtures ahead before Christmas.
