Sidmouth 53 – 14 Marlborough
Sidmouth carried the momentum from last week’s strong showing at Launceston into Saturday’s fixture at the Blackmore, dismantling Marlborough in a comprehensive 53-14 victory. Clinical finishing and a dominant forward pack saw the home side cross the white line eight times in a clinical display of rugby.
First Half: Clinical Capitalization
The match began at a frantic pace. Immediately from the kick-off, Marlborough were reduced to 14 men when their number 6 received a yellow card for a high tackle on Sidmouth’s Shaun Malton. Despite the man disadvantage, it was the visitors who struck first. After winning a Sidmouth lineout, Marlborough’s left wing carved through the defense from the 10-metre line to score a converted try against the run of play.
Sidmouth’s response was instant. Fin Lashbrook finished off a slick handling move to the right wing to level the scores at 7-7. This sparked a scoring spree that Marlborough simply couldn't contain.
The forwards took control of the territory, leading to a succession of "pick and go" tries from Harry Emmett, Rabbie Hansford, and Dan Armstrong. Jake Allen added to the tally through a well-worked passing move, while Lewis Tose kept the scoreboard ticking with his boot. By the interval, Sidmouth had effectively sealed the result with a commanding 34-7 lead.
Second Half: Closing it Out
With the result largely beyond doubt, Sidmouth maintained their intensity. Jake Allen secured his second of the afternoon, followed by tries from Nathan Tomkins and Rory O’Brien.
To their credit, Marlborough continued to fight and were rewarded with a late consolation try, but the day belonged to the Blackmore faithful.
The final whistle confirmed a resounding 53-14 win for the home side, marking a significant step forward in their season form.
Sidmouth will host Lydney at the Blackmore on Saturday, with kick off at 14.30.
