38 - 19

(HT 0-0)

Chew Valley RFC
Sidmouth Dig Deep for Gritty Victory.
In a game of two distinct halves, Sidmouth RFC secured a hard-fought 38–19 victory, combining a scintillating attacking display in the opening period with a masterclass in defensive resilience after the break.
A Breathless Opening Exchange.
The first half was nothing short of a rollercoaster for the Blackmore faithful. From the opening whistle, both sides traded blows in a high-octane affair that saw the scoreboard ticking over almost as fast as the clock.
Sidmouth’s expansive play allowed them to cross the whitewash repeatedly, but the opposition remained doggedly on their heels.
By the time the referee blew for the interval, Sidmouth held a narrow 24–19 lead.
It was a breathless 40 minutes of "you score, we score" rugby that left the supporters—and likely the players—gasping for air.
The Defensive Wall.
If the first half was about flair, the second half was defined by flinty determination. As the opposition searched for a way back into the contest, Sidmouth’s defensive line became an impenetrable wall.
Wave after wave of pressure was met with disciplined tackling and crucial turnovers.
Having weathered the storm, Sidmouth showed their clinical edge, breaking away to score two further tries to put the game out of reach.
The Final Tally.
Sidmouth's clinical nature proved the difference, outscoring their opponents by six tries to three.
Crucially, the result earned Sidmouth a five-point league win, moving them level on points in the table with Launceston on 45 points.
The Player of the Match award was given to Cian Warren, who secured a brace of tries and delivered an excellent defensive display, covering positions on both the left wing and at openside flanker.
The Chiefs travel to Lydney next Saturday.
Tries: Cian Warren (2), Rory O'Brien, Dan Armstrong, Richie Drewitt, Charlie Brook.
Conversions: Lewis Tose (2), Jake Smith (2).
