The Evergreens travelled to Ivybridge needing a bonus‑point win to secure a vets league semi‑final spot — and delivered in style on a perfect day for rugby.
With the slope advantage in the first half, the pack set the tone early. Knight, Barratt and Tripet dominated the scrum, with Vincent and the forward for the day Lund-Jones adding plenty of grunt. That platform let Webber pull the strings and keep Ivybridge pinned back.
Tries came steadily: Carnall pounced for the opener before Lund‑Jones, Smee, Dapling and Prettyjohn all crossed in a strong first‑half showing. Ivybridge hit back twice, but the Evergreens went into the break with the bonus point secured and a healthy lead.
Playing uphill in the second half didn’t slow the boys down. Beavis carried hard, Retter ran the show and the backs stretched Ivybridge across the park. More tries followed, including scores for Beavis, Retter and another two from Smee and Dapling out wide.
Ivybridge grabbed one more, but the Evergreens finished the game with sustained pressure and some sharp handling to close out a superb away win.
Try scorers:
Smee (2), Dapling (2), Lund-Jones, Knight, Beavis, Carnall, Prettyjohn, Retter
Conversions: Retter
A brilliant squad performance, especially with so many absences. Strong set piece, hard carries, sharp hands and plenty of heart. On to the semi‑finals.
