Winscombe U18 Girls 28 – 0 Sidmouth U18 Girls.  (not 44-0)

On Sunday the 6th of March 2022 Sidmouth U18 girls travelled to Winscombe RFC in the National Reginal Cup Final. The girls have been in great succession this year with reaching the Devon Cup final with multiple wins, so the girls entered this match with great confidence and team spirit!

Sidmouth kicked off the first half facing a very strong Winscombe side which was proven in the first 10 minutes where they scored two early tries and fortunately missing both conversions making the score 10-0. The u18s did not drop their heads at all and gave the Winscombe side a good challenge in this South West Final and pushed at the Winscombe defense with brilliant rucking causing turnovers by Lottie Reid, Esme Bagwell and Ellie Wood. U18s produced some fantastic passing play along the line which set up Aimee Simpson & Tilly Gravelle on the wings to have a good run down the line at the defense.

Sidmouth struggled to get the ball across the line and Winscombe were able to turn the ball over just before half time to score another try and converting successfully, leading their side into half time 18-0 up.

As the Second Half got underway and some substitutions for Sidmouth, the girls battled on and showed their determination and desire to get points for the team, with some fantastic tackling by Cleo Turley, Daisy Grove, Annabelle Bird, Fiona Wilson and Jess Perry. Sidmouth had some strong moments in the second half with Charlotte Starr receiving the ball on the left-hand side wing and running half the pitch but unfortunately getting brought down in the last stretch.

Sadly, Winscombe weren’t finished there and continued to score two more tries but with missing both conversions left the final score of Winscombe U18 Girls 28 – 0 Sidmouth U18 Girls.
