Crediton RFC

28 - 7

(HT 14-0)

Sidmouth RFC
Sidmouth were well beaten by promotion chasing Crediton, whose forwards dominated the scrums and the collisions in damp, windy conditions.

The pattern was set when the Sidmouth eight were driven back at the first scrum. At the next scrum they were penalised and Crediton kicked for a lineout in the corner. They set up a maul and drove over for the opening try. The fly half kicked the first of four conversions.

Frequently on the backfoot, the Chiefs were unable to initiate much in the way of attacking moves. They defended well for much of the half but could not stop Crediton from extending their lead when a forward drove over from a ruck near the line.

The score remained 0-14 at halftime.

The introduction of Richard Hull into the front row gave some stability to the scrums and the Chiefs enjoyed more time in the Crediton half after the break. However, they fell further behind when the scrum half charged down a kick in the Sidmouth 22 and followed up to win the race for the touchdown.

With ten minutes to go, the Chiefs got on the scoreboard when Dan Armstrong drove over from close range for Cole Monaghan to add the conversion.

Five minutes later, any hopes of a bonus point were squashed when the powerful Crediton left winger ran out of defence before kicking ahead and the fly half won the chase to score a bonus point fourth try.

On Saturday the Chiefs entertain North Petherton kicking off at 2.30pm.

The Quins play Exeter Athletic at Sidford with a 2.30pm kick off.

The Valkyries travel to Teignmouth on Sunday.
